Introduction
PAS-Agent is an open-source, local-first tool for preserving and transferring coding work between AI coding agents. PAS stands forPortable Agent Sessions.
When you switch from one coding agent to another, say from Claude Code to Codex, the context you built up doesn't come with you. The task, the decisions, the files you changed, and what comes next all have to be explained again.
PAS-Agent records that context in a provider-neutral session file and exports it into the instruction file the next agent already reads at startup (CLAUDE.md, AGENTS.md, or GEMINI.md).
The Core Idea
Claude Code
↓
pas-agent update / checkpoint
↓
.pas-agent/session.json (portable session state)
↓
pas-agent export --to codex
↓
Codex reads AGENTS.md and continues the same workWhat PAS-Agent Is
- Local-first: all data stays in your project directory
- Provider-neutral: exports for Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Kiro CLI, and Antigravity
- CLI-first: a single Rust binary, no daemon
- Non-destructive: exports go into a marked block, so your own instructions are never overwritten
- Open source: MIT licensed
What PAS-Agent Is Not
- Not a replacement coding agent
- Not a cloud service
- Not a parser for agents' proprietary session formats
- Not an orchestration framework
Current Status
PAS-Agent is in Phase 1 (Foundation). The session model, CLI, checkpoints, and context export are implemented, and you update the session by hand. Phase 2 will add shell hooks that update and export automatically when you switch agents.
